Electrician (ITI)
Electrician: An electrician is a tradesman specializing in electrical wiring of buildings, stationary machines and related equipment. Electricians may be employed in the installation of new electrical components or the maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure. Electricians may also specialize in wiring ships, airplanes and other mobile platforms.

A candidate trained in this class performs skilled electrical work in the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment and wiring used in communication, light, and power systems. Assignments, supervision, and review are received from Building Maintenance Supervisor. The candidate may supervise maintenance staff on a project by project basis.

Jobs Prospects for ITI Electrician trained candidates are:
  • Data on Job Outlook are updated on a yearly basis and are compiled from national statistics which may not reflect either regional variations or more recent changes in employment conditions.
  • Employment for Electricians to 2016-17 is expected to grow very strongly. Employment in this very large occupation (139 200 in November 2011) rose strongly in the past five years and in the long-term (ten years).
  • Electricians have a very high proportion of full-time jobs (93.8 per cent). For Electricians working full-time, average weekly hours are 41.3 (compared to 41.3 for all occupations) and earnings are above average – in the seventh decile. Unemployment for Electricians is average.
